Episode 1 - The First Medal of Honor:
Jacob Parrott

An AI education video made by AI Video Production Company (AVPC): the first episode of Military Heroes, our series on Medal of Honor recipients told in chronological order.

About this episode

How an 18-year-old private became Medal of Honor #1.

In April 1862, a small group of Union volunteers in civilian clothes slipped about 200 miles into Confederate territory, stole a locomotive called the General, and raced north toward Chattanooga. Behind them came one of the most stubborn pursuers in American history.

The raid failed. But one of the youngest raiders, 18-year-old Private Jacob Parrott of the 33rd Ohio, would become the first person ever to receive the Medal of Honor.

Some details differ between sources, including exact dates, head counts, and who did what. We note those differences on screen where they matter.
